A twenty five year study reported in Punch suggests a link between telephoning and hiccups. The English Minister of Health cited a relation but warned that the nature of the link is unknown and urged against alarmist conclusions from Standing Advisory Committee findings.
A committee warns young ladies about risks of excessive telephoning while the minister notes uncertainty whether hiccups arise from talking or constant ringing. Studies claim higher hiccup rates among drinkers and even mice trained to answer phones show hiccup attacks after calls.
The Sali anti polio vaccination program begins tomorrow at Rockwell School for first and second graders. Vaccination days continue at Burton and Walley Thursday, three local parochial schools Friday, and Oliver school next Tuesday. Each site includes a physician, two registered nurses, and a recorder, with named medical staff and schools listed for Wednesday through Tuesday.
Bristol Yacht Club members meet tonight in the new quarters at Poppasquash in the former Redcrest building on Ward well boat yard property. Town solicitor Frank L Martin today filed the town s answer to former town solicitor Lucien Capone s bill of complaint in the harbor dock case He asks removal of the injunction and says the town neither admits nor denies five sections Capone must prove his charges within 10 days The judge urged speedy action as a previous hearing noted taxpayers consented to raising the dock appropriation from 15000 to 20000 at a January town meeting The remaining issue is whether a harbor commission is appointed from the floor of a town meeting or by general referendum.
Democratic and Republican parties circulate a joint petition listing four candidates Frank L. Martin and Margaret Connors as Democrats Orlando Jrisbane and Roger W. Pigeon as Republicans The selected delegates will face a June 9 special election and decide on constitutional changes judge tenure and redevelopment powers with four delegates for the town.
The annual senior high gym exhibit is tomorrow night at Andrews Gymnasium directed by Gladys M Brightman 2nd and A A Pansa. It begins at 7 45 with demonstrations from both girls and boys teams including pyramids tumbling boxing basketball calisthenics relays and apparatus.
