Bristol Utilities Board Explores Water Expansion Steps

The Bristol County Public Service Commission, led by Rear Admiral Gilbert C. Hoover, considers urging the State Public Utilities Commission to involve Bristol County Water Company and local industries to study expanding water supply. A 1.5 million gallon daily need from Collins & Aikman Corp. sparked the issue, with the Water Company citing a $700000 outlay and seeking guarantees. A committee is to be formed from Bristol Warren and Barrington to press for action, including possible future condemnation and purchase of the water company.

Softball League To Start June 10 In Bristol

The Bristol YMCA athletic committee announces the league opener on Tuesday June 10 after a meeting open to interested teams. Represented groups include Carr Manufacturing U S Rubber Puniello Studios Bristol Independents Mt Hope Community Club and an independent squad. A women's league meeting for interested players is set for Tuesday at 7 30 pm at the YMCA with strong early interest reported.

Mothers Club Sets Penny Social at St Mary’s Auditorium

Mothers Club of St Mary’s Church outlines Penny Social plans for Tuesday in St Mary’s auditorium. They vote to donate 10 to the Catholic Charity Appeal and schedule a Sunday 2 pm meeting at Byfield School to distribute girls uniforms. Mrs Frederick Serbst chairs with a list of committee members including Mrs Arthur Tattrie and Mrs Luke White.

Twilight League Opens 1947 Season Monday on the Common

Collins & Aikman meets YM CA in the season opener at the common with Rear Admiral Gilbert C. Hoover throwing out the first ball. The four team Twilight League features Ascoli’s, St. Elizabeth’s and Collins & Aikman with a 28 game schedule and a two point per win scoring system.

Robbery Reported At Hope Drug Company

Charles A. Richards owner of the Hope Drug Company on 420 Hope Street reported a break last evening. Entry was gained by removing a cellar window screen. About $100 in cash from three registers and seventy dollars in federal tax money were taken. A camera pens boxes and watches were among the stolen items.

Mothers Club Night At St Mary's Canteen

Saturday night will host Mothers Club Night at St Marys Canteen with members and husbands invited. Special prizes will be awarded by the Mothers Club. The 1947 Fourth of July committee held its first meeting in the Council Chamber and elected officers James F. Meiggs as chairman John G. Stewart as secretary and James J Velleca as treasurer Funds will be raised by subcommittees including Miss Regina C Farley for mail subscriptions Mrs Gladys M Brightman for a benefit bridge and others The morning parade will be the highlight with a 2 day program featuring boxing vaudeville baseball and fireworks The Common will host events from June 30 with readings by a pupil and a possible reading of the Declaration of Independence The plan includes a carnival and band concerts and invites state town and national officials to participate Regular meetings will occur Fridays.

Four Films At Bristol YMCA Tonight Show Tonight

Four films will be shown at 7 o'clock for boys and an hour later for men in the Bristol YMCA library. A. E. Agatiello leads the program featuring a cartoon story of auto racers elephants and Glazier National Park. The films are part of a weekly Friday series for members and guests.

Testimonial Planned For William F Head

Commander Robert B Suzman of Kearney Post No 6 American Legion heads a committee to plan a testimonial banquet honoring Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps and William F Head comrade and newly named Rhode Island Fist Drum and Bugle Corps Association president. The event opens the drum corps season and aims to boost the group before the national drum corps contest at the New York convention in August.
