Parade and mass meeting urge enlistment in Bristol unit

A Bristol mass meeting at the Pastime Theatre tonight will urge enlistments in the 19th Company Rhode Island Coast Artillery National Guard. A 7:30 parade led by the Herreshoff Marine Band precedes the meeting with speakers including Col Charles F Tillinghast and Col Archibald O Matteson.

Flowers stolen in door yard raid shock Bristol resident

Henry M Meiggs woke Saturday to find his door yard tulips and hyacinths ripped from beds. He traced flowering sprigs along Pearse avenue to Church street toward Mt Hope avenue but found no clue. He warns such yard raids are common in Bristol and calls for harsh punishment to deter others.

Tent Show Delays and Wet Grounds Halt Performances

The Sig Sautelle and Oscar Lowande tent show played on Wood street grounds with fair afternoon attendance and full evening seats. Transportation issues prevented several ponies and musicians from arriving, causing a slip and a missed bareback ride, and side show attractions were canceled due to soft ground. The season opened locally and the show then moved to Warren.

School Committee Installs Subcommittees and Elects Executive Group

Rear Admiral John R. Edwards chaired the monthly School Committee meeting. Subcommittees were named for Accounts Fyvening Schools Grammars and Primary Schools High School Hygiene School Houses Text Books and an executive committee of Edwards Boynton and Connery was elected. Bills totaling 4559.62 were approved for payment and the Building Committee reviewed bills for payment.

Bristol community to fund flag pole on the common

Citizens contribute to a project to erect a large flag pole and fly a flag on Memorial Day or July 4 as Bristol seeks to boost patriotism. Donations from local groups and residents include amounts from 2.00 to 5.00, with names like Bristol Phoenix and the Sons of the American Revolution among contributors.

Rhode Island Episcopal Convention Opens in Providence

The 127th annual Rhode Island Episcopal Convention began at 10 in St Michael's Church with Holy Communion and a business session. Bishop James De Wolf Perry Jr. gave the annual address on diocese and church conditions, followed by committee elections. Rev William Pressey of Ashton serves as secretary.
