Possible Veterans Housing Site Discussed at Town Meeting
Clemens J France says no formal communication yet from the Veterans Housing Relief Committee on using part of the Rhode Island State Soldiers Home grounds at Meta Com Avenue for a temporary veterans housing project. The plan would be voted at the special town meeting next Monday at Reynolds School. it would need Governor Pastore’s approval and funding details before commitment. The site south of Gooding Avenue carries estimated costs of 40000 dollars with federal funding for construction and a three year duration after which temporary housing must be removed. Rentals would be charged to veterans and any surplus would go to the Federal government.

Twilight league opener draws large Bristol crowd
A large crowd filled Bristol Common for the Twilight League opener as the Y M C A Vikings defeated US Rubber Company 6 to 2 in front of veterans back from the war. Pitchers Vin Secure and Billy Alves impressed, Bert Velleca hit a two run homer, and 96 year old Pepe Damiano tossed the ceremonial first pitch. The crowd looked forward to a summer of baseball with collapse-free play and strong support.
