Principal Ralph R. Strong resigned as Colt Memorial High School chief to take a Bristol Connecticut grammar school post. The School Committee praised his tenure, noting improved standards and Phi Beta Kappa recognition. Re-elected teachers listed with salaries updated. various committee actions and upcoming plans noted.
A large crowd attended a Democratic mass meeting at the Pastime Theatre presided by Senator D. W. Coggeshall. Speakers included Governor Flynn Lt. Gov. Toupin Senator Quinn and others who defended the filibuster and attacked Republican leaders while urging a constitutional convention and political reform ahead of next fall's election.
At the Bristol Aerie no 953 F O E last evening officers for the coming year were elected. Worthy President John F Powers and Worthy Vice President John Matheson lead the slate with other posts filled by Henry J Sylvia John F Lowney Louis Benjamin Albert Menard Wm Belmore Fred F Suzman Louis Levy and Dr John Lake. Three applicants were elected to membership and Eagle Day is planned for the third Sunday in June with Eagles from Massachusetts and Connecticut, kicking off plans for the Grand Aerie convention in Providence August 11-16.
Two Friday night crashes involved horse drawn wagons. James Saviano’s auto hit a Callan Construction horse team on Hope Street, injuring him and head injuries to the horse team driver Robert Van Voast. Saviano was treated by Dr. Hasbrouck. A second crash on Franklin Street between a Mederios & Bernard truck and Mello Bastinzi’s horse wagon damaged the wagon and scattered eggs. Both drivers were uninjured. A third incident Sunday on Washington Street damaged John J Collins’s auto after he avoided a bicycle rider. no injuries reported.
A Friday evening shower for Miss Anna Caruso at Easter Foll house 189 State Street featured white and pink decor. Guests presented gifts including embroidery. A mock wedding with bride Elsie Menna and groom Mary Alesio entertained, aided by Rose Gladué as maid of honor and Cora Guinta as best man. Refreshments, music, games, and dancing followed.
