New Community Beach May Open In June
Council President William H Angevine plans a popular subscription drive to fund a new 15 acre bath and picnic beach on Leahy Estate land by Mount Hope Bay. The site near Soldiers' Home and Camp Takarest would open by late June with dressing room rents and a concession booth covering operating costs. A five year lease requires fencing and a road from Metacom avenue, and work relief labor may be used. Rental ground is set at 350 annually and the beach has long been a local favorite despite being three miles from town center.
