Prisoner of war camp survivor found happy in Philippines

Joe E Brown reports his mother Marie Augustus formerly Catherine Connery of this town is now in a Manila area home caring for orphans after being rescued from Los Banos by American troops. He and two friends, aided by the Red Cross, located her on April 25 and shared lunch and a visit with other mothers and children.

Sergeant Del Toro Returns Home From German Prison Camp

Sgt. Albert P. Del Toro arrives home after four months as a German POW during the Battle of the Bulge. He shed 40 pounds, endured starvation, beatings, long marches and box car confinement, and was rescued March 30. He will report to Lake Placid after a 60 day furlough.

David Costa Receives Gold Honor Medal From Boy Scouts

David Costa of the First Bristol Troop, BSA, was awarded the Gold Honor Medal at a District Court of Honor in Colt Memorial High School. He saved his niece from a runaway horse last August by pushing her baby carriage from danger. Judge Jeremiah F O'Connell presided and praised Costa's courage and service orientation. The event included war service and other badge presentations, with a Bristol emphasis and a short Bristol Bugle recital.

Private Frank Pagano Jr 24 of 31 Garfield avenue Bristol Rhode Island has recovered at the 156th General Hospital Eng land from wounds in Germany February 1945. He is released for a return to duty and is a member of an Infantry Unit. He entered the Army June 12 1944 and has been awarded the Cluster to the Purple Heart.

Veterans to Organize VFW Post in Bristol Sunday

One Man Airborne Invasion Of Okinawa Ends In Escape

Lt. Frederick M. Fox parachuted into Okinawa after a collision forced a landing. He hid in cane patches and a cabbage field while Japanese troops and civilians moved around. He shot one man who found him, then used boats and a dye marker to signal for rescue, finally reaching a U.S. ship after tense days of evasion.
