New Playground Planned By Board Of Recreation
The Board of Recreation approved a 910,000 project for a new playground with hobby horse swings a slide seesaws a merry go round normal swings and a horizontal ladder to be built north of the administration building at the beach. Raymond R. Paria won the bid at 5050 with a 10 percent deposit. A maintenance crew for the beach was deferred and a meeting is set for Sunday morning at 1 am to plan beach clearing. Anthony E. Agatiello was reappointed summer recreation director and Naomi Sousa program director.

Charter Ordinance Adopted For June Charter Election
Town Council adopted a charter election ordinance for June 25 with two polling sites BTA Hall and Reynolds School. Voters will use machines from 8 am to 9 pm. nine charter commissioners will be chosen from the alphabetized slate. Two ballot questions ask whether a commission should be elected and whether 2600 dollars should be appropriated for the charter draft fund.

Richard Carlone a Bristol Senior High School senior has been chosen to read the Gettysburg Address at Memorial Day exercises. He is the son of Patrolman and Mrs Anthony Carlone of 59 Gelock Road. Carlone received a special Red Cross citation two months ago for saving a young girl from drowning.

Bristol officials urge New England Telephone to accept a 15000 offer for the former Court Street building. Town leaders had approved 28000 for purchase and renovation, including a parking area behind the town hall. Bristol Boots to Sail Arctic Trip on Spar
Twenty seven pairs of Bristol made boots will be aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Spar when it sails May 19 on a voyage around the North American continent. Bristol Manufacturing Co gloves join the shipment to test cold weather performance in the Arctic Ocean during the voyage. The boot style is an adaptation of the Korean War era Korean boot.

Armed Forces Day Dance Planned For May 18
The Bristol Chamber of Commerce plans an Armed Forces Day Dance on May 18 to honor service members stationed or visiting Bristol. The Army Navy and Coast Guard open houses will run that weekend with Army Navy Coast Guard units and the visiting sailors. Facilities of the YMCA are offered by Richard Tilden and the local guided missile site will be open to the public for the first time. The Navy destroyer Bristol and Coast Guard Cutters Spar and Cactus will host visitors.

Teenage Road-e-o Set For Tomorrow
The Bristol County teen road-e-o will be held tomorrow afternoon at 12 30 pm in front of Reynold School with entrants from three towns. Late entrants should report at noon for a make up written exam. Three trophies and a plaque will be awarded. the top winner will advance to regional and national competitions in Washington DC in August with a 1500 scholarship.

State Aid Increase Adds to Bristol Budget
The General Assembly approved extra state aid for schools raising per pupil funding from 17 to 37 dollars. Bristol expects $30,640 more income, unchanged for this year's tax levy but aiding planning for 1958 59. Superintendent Edward J. Fitzgerald said the district budget would balance the year and potentially leave a carryover for next year.

Whale carcass towed from Pap Pasquash Point shore
The unwanted whale washed up at Pap Pasquash Point earlier this week and was towed away Tuesday by the state marine patrol boat Gan net. Wardens hope it sank and will not wash ashore again at a Narragansett Bay beach, leaving property concerns for west shore owners Joseph Robinson and Philip Bodell.
