Charter Commission Reverts to Indefinite Police Chief Term
The Charter Commission voted seven to zero to set the police chief’s term as indefinite instead of two years with Judge Ferdinand A Bruno absent and not voting. Frank T Canario initiated the reconsideration after missing the earlier two year action, seconded by Roger W Pigeon. An attempt to make the fire chief’s term indefinite failed 4 to 3 with Bruno not voting. The panel also approved a primary system for school committee elections when nominees exceed nine, and discussed vacancy removals.
