Two Bristol Men Freed From German Prison Camps

Pfc William J Bottomley and Pfc Pasquale L Grimo have been liberated from German POW camps. Bottomley, son of Mrs Catherine Bottomley of 4 Howe Street, was held five months at Hartmannsdorf 4 F and writes of swift movement toward home from Reims France. Grimo, son of Michael Grimo of 4 Usher Avenue, was flown from Germany to England and hospital care, with plans to return home soon.

Bristol Soldier Killed in Action in Germany

Pfc. Andrew J. Meiggs 20 son of Mr. and Mrs. James Meiggs of Bristol has been killed in action in Germany. He earlier was listed missing since April 1 and had served with a military police unit in Paris before joining the First Army. He graduated Bristol High School in 1942 and was inducted May 21, 1943.

Cancer Drive Appeal Receives Slow Local Response

She urges support from those not yet approached and notes boxes in some stores, with mail donations directed to Mrs. Perry or co-chair Dr. Frederick V. Martin. Surgical Dressing Quota Raised to 13 500 for Two Weeks

Mrs Henry Wood chair man of surgicals announced the Red Cross unit must produce more than thirteen thousand dressings in the next two weeks to meet the new quota. The original target was 12 000 with a 1 500 addition making it the largest yet. She urged old workers and many new volunteers to help as only a few have answered so far. Red Cross rooms operate daily Monday to Friday and evenings Monday through Wednesday.

Lt Harold C Peckham 24 USNR of 21 Constitution Street is stationed at the Atlantic Fleet minecraft training center Little Creek Virginia on temporary duty after 20 months aboard a minesweeper on the Pacific coast He will take further instruction and receive a new assignment on completion He is married to Constance Grady of West Englewood New Jersey and they have a 18 month old son Jeffery His mother is Mrs H C Peckham of Constitution Street His brother Benjamin is a coxswain in the Seabees He attended Rhode Island State College and earned a BS in business administration in 1942

Harry Scheer to Perform at Rockwell Hall May 10

Magician Harry Scheer, a famed New England illusionist, will present a legerdemain show Thursday evening in Rockwell Hall at the YMCA. William Williston, now based in New York, hails Scheer as one of the country’s leading magicians and urges local patrons to buy tickets at the YMCA.

St Michael s Church Hosts Sunday Service and Social

Sixth Annual Cavel Ball Held May 12

The Sixth Annual Cavel Ball under the Collins and Aikmen Girls' Club and Men's Club will be held Saturday May 12 at the Hotel Warren. Music by Irving Rosen and his orchestra with Irene Cabral as joint committee chair. Girls' Club reps include Mary Garvin Peggy Morris and Peggy George ex officio.
