Homecoming of Pacific Veteran Sgt Slim Roderick

Tech Sgt Anthony M Slim Roderick son of Mr and Mrs Antone Roderick Bristol arrived home after 37 months in the Pacific Area He has a 25 day furlough and will report for re assignment in Atlantic City His unit the Fifth Air Force Jolly Rogers flew from Australia New Guinea to the Philippines and Hong Kong He served as airplane mechanic and helped keep Liberator bombers in air Also noted are Tech Sgt Americus C Mattos and Staff Sgt Russell C Hawkes with the Mareeba Butchers prior overseas service He is a 1939 Bristol Senior High School graduate and local sports figure

Alfred Xavier Returns To Duty After Pacific Wound

Boatswain's mate second class Alfred Xavier of the U S Naval Reserve is back on duty after convalescent leave with his mother Mrs Sadie Xavier of 26 Bay View avenue. He was wounded in the Pacific while serving aboard a cruiser and had been at sea two and a half years. A 1942 Bristol Senior High School graduate, he joined the Navy in July 1942.

Bristol Man Commissioned Lieutenant After OCS at Fort Benning

Stephen Campanella of Bristol Rhode Island was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U S Army after completing the Infantry School Officer Candidate Course at Fort Benning Georgia. He entered service July 26 1944 and previously held the rank of Private with I T B Camp Wheeler Georgia. World War II Veterans to be Honored by American Legion

Twenty seven World War II veterans from Kearney Post No 6 will be honored at the American Legion night meeting at the Post Home on Franklin Street Friday at 8 p.m. National Vice Commander Frank L. McCaffrey will speak on the G I Bill of Rights. De partment Service Officer Matthias McGorty and James E. Sullivan also will speak. Leroy L. Doan will preside. Auxiliary ladies will host a social hour and collation.
