War Sugar Ration Books Registration Planned For Bristol

Bristol families will apply next week for War Ration Books to limit sugar purchases. Registration runs 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday at Reynolds Guileras Colt Memorial and Reynolds schools with locations by residence in the afternoon. Applicants must state family size and details, including a per person sugar on hand, with per person limits of two pounds daily or per week stamps. New registrar volunteers listed include Mrs Meiggs Pettine Burke Dixon Grossman Newman Moren Connery Miller Davis Maddox Adams Waters Stanton Bense and Huestis.

Church to mark 255th anniversary with communion

The First Congregational Church will observe its 255th anniversary Sunday with an 11 o'clock service featuring holy communion. The historic communion plate will be displayed and a new class of members will be received, with Rev Herbert D Graetz presiding.

Districts For Sugar Rationing Reference Note

Sugar rationing districts define registration times. GUITERAS SCHOOL covers north of Franklin Street. COLT HIGH SCHOOL covers south of Franklin and west of Wood. REYNOLDS SCHOOL covers east of Wood including Wood south of Franklin. Reynolds opens 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for townwide registration. Any adult family member may register for the whole family.

War Bond May Quota Sets Bristol Target at 4954596

The War Bond drive aims to raise funds nationwide with a May quota for Bristol County at 11343312 and for the town of Bristol at 4954596. Albert Tanner of Warren leads the effort urging residents to report out of town purchases to credit the town. If voluntary sales lag, legal steps may be used to fund war costs. Additional local merchants now carrying stamps include A Johnston and Bristol Women's Exchange.

Dr. Frederick Martin Elected Rotary Club Head

Dr. Fred Vo Martin was elected president of the Rotary Club at the new board meeting. He will succeed VJ de Rocha in July. A Edmonds was elected vice president with Howard R Newman as secretary and Chas H Liscomb replacing Charles Otten. Local Control Center to Join CPX Test Today

The Local Civilian Defense Control Center will host a CPX test this afternoon at 4 00 p m in cooperation with the State Council of Defense and ten other towns. Executive Vice Chairman A A Edmonds and B W Wall will participate. The exercise will simulate an incident with outside aid coordinated by telephone only. A state county committee on practice blackouts is being formed with Wall named as candidate for this town.

New Y M A secretary assumes post in Bristol

Hubert Finch Hill is appointed general secretary of the Bristol Y M C A succeeding Earl Hobson. The 31 year old Dover New Jersey former Y supervisor comes from Springfield College background with music and gymnastic interests. He and his family will reside at 1577 Hope Street.

Kearney Post to Meet Tonight American Legion Plans 1942 events

Kearney Post No. 6 of the American Legion meets at 8 o'clock tonight in Franklin street Post Home. Delegates to district and department conventions will be elected and plans made for the July 16 Post anniversary. Committees report on Bingo Housing Salvage Drive Sea Scout War Bonds and Stamps and Memorial Day participation. Commander Edmund Rex urges full attendance as the post has reached its 1942 membership quota with 115 members.

Bristol Firemen Aid Coventry Fire Fight

Bristol firemen left at two o'clock with nine men to assist the blaze in the Coventry and West Greenwich area. The Ever Ready truck, captained by Anthony Perry with a crew, joined volunteers to curb the fire as a large force mobilized from Bristol and Warren.
