Town Council approves police vacancy and leases asylum farm

National India Rubber strike continues with partial plant reopenings
Despite a Tuesday shoe department walkout affecting the entire National India Rubber Company plant, the wire department reopened and the plan is to reopen the whole plant next Monday. About 500 wire workers returned. strikers remain orderly with no violence. Bristol police, along with 30 Boston officers, guard plant sites and deter gatherings. The strike follows a demand for a 10 percent raise, routed through the New York office, with management not inducing immediate work. General Manager George Schlosser, ill in Woonsocket, approved the action.

Lawrence Vertuno an 11 year old boy who lost his leg in the New Haven railroad freight yards died at Rhode Island Hospital Wednesday night after amputation. He was injured while picking up coal under a box car. Parents live on Usher avenue. Funeral held today at 10 with interment at St Mary's Cemetery.

A sendoff last Sunday for Seaman George T. Ingram of the U S S Albany and Air Philip T. Griffin of Fort Sill Oklahoma was hosted by Mr and Mrs J R Ingram of Mount Hope Avenue.
