Strike at N I R Co Today Shuts Shoe Dept
About 3500 workers in the Shoemaking Department left the National India Rubber Company plant this morning in a strike over wage offers. Management had posted a 10 percent raise, short of the leaders demands. Police presence was arranged and guarding precautionary measures were taken as the Wire department remained closed for now.

Roy Mangled Under Car In Freight Yard Accident
Antone Lawrence of Irving on Usher avenue was injured while coal was being retrieved under a box car in the local freight yards west of the depot. A moving car mangled his right leg and caused a compound hip fracture. Dr A M Merriman treated him before he was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where the leg was amputated. He had been driven out of the yard two or three times that morning.
