Beach committee resigns after slim attendance meeting

Bristol Beach Committee announces resignation to the Town Council after a meeting at Reynolds School attended by about 70 students and a few adults. Members say they explored sites Rockwell Park and Colt Drive but failed to mobilize enough community support for a town beach.

Group to discuss junior college plan in Bristol meets again

A Bristol group agrees to continue investigating a junior college for the area. The next meeting is set for Monday April 15 at Holmes House with sub committee reports to be presented and officials from Rhode Island colleges to be consulted.

Athletic awards at Bristol Senior High School assembly

Bristol Senior High School held a combined Scholastic and Athletic Award program at 9:30 in the auditorium. Anthony Santulli presided. Hubert Hill of the Rotary Club presented sweaters. Coach Ralph Nash awarded letters. John Burke announced silver footballs for the squad and managers.

Edward Silvia Receives Flight Training Scholarship

Master Sergeant Edward Silvia receives a $100 flight training scholarship from the Bristol Flight of the Civil Air Patrol. Lieut Leon Vaughan presents the award donated by Wiggins Airways at Mount Tipe Avenue. The scholarship funds eight to nine hours of dual instruction before solo flight, honoring his attendance and efforts in military and social Patrol activities.

Tulip Time operetta staged by Bristol Senior High

The Bristol Senior High School senior class presented Tulip Time over three nights with full crowds. Colorful Dutch costumes and a windmill set impressed audiences as Miss Theresa Donovan directed the show. Lead roles included Joseph Arruda, Mary Lou Serbst, Anne Bruno, and Frances Ann Doyle among others.

William Harrop Taken To Hospital After Cerebral Hemorrhage

William Harrop of 260 Hope Street is to be transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday morning while tending the heating system at the Narragansett Electric Company office. He was found by manager John D. Moore when he failed to return home at 6 30. Dr Samuel D Clark attended at the scene and the family physician Dr C Paul Bruno advised hospital transfer.

Army Ducks Amphibious Truck Saves Coast Guard Crew

Palmer C Putnam and OSRD scientists adapted a standard Army truck into an amphibious vehicle. In December 1942 one Duck rescued seven Coast Guard crewmen off Provincetown during a gale, with a photo shown to President Roosevelt and Secretary Stimson. The Ducks were officially accepted soon after.
