URI President to Keynote PTA Meeting on College Look at Seniors

Dr. Carl R. Woodward president of the University of Rhode Island will be principal speaker at the PTA meeting Thursday night announced by William Bowen president. The 8 pm gathering will be in Colt auditorium with a talk titled Colleges Look At High School Seniors.

Two More Sewer Petitions Filed in Town

Two petitions for sewer extension lines were filed by Joseph G A Riccio with Town Clerk Anthony J Dennis Jr. Signatures are being checked. One petition requests 4900 to install a 6 inch line 650 feet on Hillside Road and Gorham Place. The other seeks 10000 for a 12 inch trunk line from Munroe Avenue north to Veterans Park and beyond.

Reader Will Be Joint Project Teen Road-E-O

The Bristol County Junior Chamber of Commerce voted to make the annual Teen-age Road-E-O a joint project with the Barrington Junior Chamber of Commerce. The Bristol chapter agreed to join forces with the Barrington group in sponsoring the program. The meeting was held at the Castle.

Fire and Police Chiefs to indefinite terms approved

The Charter Commission approved changes to the Fire and Police Departments Planning and General Review Boards and Harbor Commission with an indefinite term for Fire and Police Chiefs. The board of Fire Engineers was created with annual appointments, while a new five member general review board was authorized with staggered four year terms and an alternate. Harbor Commission terms are five years with annual replacements.

Non Partisan School Election Approved

The Charter Commission approved non-partisan School Committee elections by a 5-4 vote, moving to remove party labels and require at least 50 petition signatures. Opponents included Ferdinand Bruno and Anthony J. Dennis Jr. while Roger Pigeon supported the change, calling it splendid.

The Chart er Commission sub committee discussed indefinite terms for department heads including Town Treasurer and Town Auditor.
