Dedications and fires shape St Marys Church history

The St Marys Church on Wood Street was dedicated by the Rhode Island bishop in 1855. It saw expansions and a 1870 rededication, with cornerstone laid in 1911 for a new building and first Mass that Christmas. The old site housed a parochial school in 1915, a 1927 dedication, and the 1948 demolition after a damaging fire.
