Parents whose children were vaccinated in August are urged to consult their private physician for the third polio inoculation seven to twelve months after the second shot. No state funds or follow up clinics planned due to vaccine shortages. A polio clinic Aug 15-16 at Andrews School drew 1,247 attendees, 54 first shots and the rest second shots.
A Bristo l County NFIP chapter moves to delay petition submission until April 18 to avoid clashing with the April 22 town meeting. The drive has grown by about 400 names in ten days, aiming past the 725 minimum. The group seeks a charter election, with a Home Rule speaker planned for April 8 and a detailed 1952 charter process outlined by the 28th amendment.
State Senator Gladys M. Brightman will introduce a bill in the Senate to study converting Mill Pond seven acres into a small boat basin. The study would be conducted by the Division of Rivers and Harbors with a Feb 14, 1958 deadline for its report. The bill also seeks to assess reconstructing Pappasquash Road and possible land fill to support usable land, amid ongoing Harbor Development Commission interest in Mill Pond.
The American Yacht Club based in Rye New York will include Bristol as an overnight stop in its annual cruise along the southern New England coast. The fleet will call at Fishers Island Pt Judith Wickford Bristol and Newport with a Bristol Newport race on August 2 as a main event.
Louis Medeiros chairman of the Sewer Commission told the Women’s Democratic Club last night that sewers are the most needed improvement in Bristol. He warned that delaying the issue only increases future costs and spoke on related community welfare problems as the guest speaker.
The Bristol PTA adult polio clinic scheduled for tomorrow is postponed to April due to a vaccine shortage. Strong school notice responses contributed to the shortage, and similar postponements have affected clinics statewide.
The Board of Canvassers will advise using the Andrews School gym for the annual financial town meeting on Apr. 22. The decision followed a February town meeting after review of a wire recording. The project cost is $6 for tape and the budget will be sent to the Town Council at their Thursday night meeting. Friday, Apr. 12.
