Taxpayers End Bristol Budget Hearing with Blanket Approval
In Bristol the shortest annual Town Meeting approved all Budget Committee recommendations by blanket motion. The arena total reached $233,855.28 with the tax rate projected around $2.22. Also approved were plans to study water rates with Warren and Bristol, seek state takeover of Mount Hope Bridge, and fund sewage plant extensions while limiting costs via federal grants.

Col Hall Relieved as Soldiers' Home Commandant March 26
Col Samuel A. Hall, longtime commander of the Soldiers' Home, will depart on March 26 after a notice from Aime J. Forand, new chief of the Soldiers Relief Division. Forand may assume command in addition to his State House duties. Hall is praised for home improvements, fire hydrants, heating upgrades, and his civil service record, plus a long military career from the Spanish American War through World War I. He has held numerous veterans and civic roles in Bristol and Providence.

Regatta Set at Narragansett Bay Harbor This Weekend
Entries pour in for the Narragansett Bay Chapter North American Dinghy Association regatta to be held in town this weekend. Race headquarters are at Sam Wardwell's Pap Pasquash yard with kickoff at 2 PM Saturday and finals near 5 PM. The Sea Scouts Kearney Sloop assist. Sunday racing begins 11 AM with lunch break and continued races.

Rising Young Tenor to Appear in Bristol Concert
Mr. George M. Tinker has been engaged as guest tenor soloist for a March 28 concert by the B.TA Band directed by Mrs. M Theresa Donovan at the Guiteral School Auditorium. Recently returned from Europe he sang tenor in Bach Cantata 206 in Boston for Bach's 250th birth anniversary and holds strong piano, organ and cello training.

No Changes Expected in Town Council and School Board Presidencies
The Town Council and School Committee plan to re elect their incumbents during reorganizations this week. Prescott B. Paull is expected to keep the Town Council presidency, with McLaughlin, Romano, and Dennis as veterans and Francois L. deWolf replacing Hibbert. The School Board likely to name Charles B. East Providence Youth Admits Sufficient Evidence in DUI Case
George Oliveira a 19 year old East Providence resident admitted sufficient evidence to convict on charges of excessive speed and drunk driving in Fifth District Court before Judge Benjamin F. Lindemuth. He was fined 25 dollars plus costs for speeding and 100 dollars plus costs for drunk driving and posted 1000 dollars bail for Superior Court proceedings. Prosecutor Police Chief Anthony J Ferrara said Oliveira was clocked at 60 to 70 mph by a state trooper before being deemed unfit to operate by a local physician. The docket then disposed of three civil cases including Federal Schools Inc. vs Alice Van Overberg and two assumpsit actions Coincidentally, Jose Cate Coelho vs Manuel Mello concluded with ongoing proceedings two weeks hence.

Over 200 men from all parts of the state are expected for the 6th Sectional Mass Meeting of Men’s Bible Classes at the First Congregational Church. The session opens at 7:50 PM with C Clifford Wilson of Warren as host and open to all local men. A social period at the General House follows, led by Rev Herbert D Graetz and Vincent J Pettine. Rev William Brown of Providence will deliver the principal address on “Wanted Men.” Enoch Marsden will lead the song service. Earl R Knight of Providence is federation president and the event aims to boost Men’s Bible Classes in Bristol County.

The contest starts 10 30 a m at the junction field with two boy classes 12 to 15 and 15 to 17. prizes and a best made kite prize.
