The Ground Observer Corps in Bristol Civil Defense reports seven new volunteers at Sunday's program held at the Legion Hall. R C Farley led the session noting public interest rose, with 65 attending to watch a film hear a talk on air attack dangers and view CD equipment. Six signed up and a movie projector glitch was solved by Matt Brito. The Air Force film One Bomb One Plane, narrated by Edward R. Murrow, illustrated coastlines through spotter towers and radar blind spots. Major Harry stressed expanding observer coverage.
A community Back to God meeting sponsored by Kearney Post is set for March 27 at 8 oclock in the Post home on Franklin Street. Representatives of various faiths will speak and the principal speaker will be announced next week. Canon Albert C. Larned chairs the arrangements committee including Albert A. Edmonds Samuel J. Smith and John B. Sylvester. The program is open to the general public.
First Troop Scouts held Carnival Night at Scout Hall with nine concession stands and various games after their regular meeting. Patrols conducted openings and announcements before transitioning to their corners to run booths including shooting gallery, dart games, basketball, ring games, and refreshments.
A nominating committee will present a slate of officers for the coming year to Kearney Post No 6 American Legion at the April 3 meeting. Post commander Dr Raymond A Thomas appointed the committee to propose Domenic J Ia George R Fish Richard Reisehausen Samuel J Campariella and Virgil Arruda.
The Haffer committee proposes converting the ground floor Pirates Den into a space for youths. Renovation and supervision needs are noted. A quieter games room for checkers and chess is sought, with a chess instructor to be found for the boys.
Officials urge majors who have not yet complied to forward names to Alfred M. Nunes and Michel Rucel for the community drive. Public notices list captains and solicitors coordinating the effort, with detailed contact points provided for submissions.
In Bristol district a one day drive is set for Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm to spur solicitors into action. The event aims to raise a quota of 5500 with staffs organized to support the effort. Contes already received font industry notices and other special advisories.
Career day events listed for March 26 at the Highschool feature speakers from local colleges. James W Eastwood of the University of Rhode Island discusses the value of a college education at 2 15 p m. Warren A Babcock Bryant College registrar presents opportunities in business and commerce at 1 00 p m. Bristol PTA notes a previous low turnout for a similar event but officials expect strong attendance this time.

The First Congregational and St Michael’s Episcopal Churches present J. S. Maunder’s Olivet to Calvary this Sunday at 7 30 P M in St Michael’s Church. Solos by Elizabeth Baker Aids Connery Vernon Gray Allen Newman and Boswell Bosworth. Public invited to join in this devotional service.
