School Group to Discuss Manner of Elections

Monetary Issues To Be Prime Topic

A Junior Chamber of Commerce meeting on Thursday night March 13 at the Midway will discuss monetary issues in detail. Members will vote on budgets for the Miss Bristol contest and for Richard Hitchcock’s campaign. Hitchcock, vice president of the Rhode Island Junior Chamber, seeks the state presidency and belongs to the Bristol chapter. President Dr Maynard Shusman urges attendance.

Easter Seals Tag Days Set in Rhode Island

Tag days will be held Thursday Friday and Saturday to benefit the Rhode Island Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Anthony E. Agatiello and Miss Naomi Sousa named co chairmen by Mrs. Alan Schanel. Fifty students from local schools will sell the tags at the YMCA where Herbert B. Burnham Jr. is teller.

Charter Commission held a lengthy session on finance matters approving sub committee recommendations to merge town treasurer and tax collector roles and create a purchasing agent. Monthly financial reports were urged. a purchase requisition system was debated and sent back for emergency provisions and further study.

Teen taxi thief nabbed after bridge chase

A 14 year old New Bedford youth admitted stealing a taxi from Sunshine Cab Inc. of 260 Sawyer Street and fled Ferry Road after bypassing the Silver Hope Bridge toll. Curtis F. Williams of the bridge crew pursued and captured him when the youth drove into the brush.

Girl Scouts Mark Week with Brownie and Intermediates

Bristol will celebrate Girl Scout Week with two events. This afternoon at 3 30 p m six Brownie troops led by Mrs William Head will present an entertainment at St Marys auditorium starting with a flag ceremony and short skits. Tomorrow at 7 30 p m ten intermediate troops will perform separate skits with Miss Suzanne Brown as announcer. District chairman is Mrs Frederic Cornell and neighborhood chairman is Mrs Joseph DuPont.

English Department Head Earns Doctorate at Calvin Coolidge College

Paul F. Fletcher head of the English Department earned a Doctorate in Education with a specialty in English curriculum at a special convocation at Calvin Coolidge College in Boston. The ceremony featured William S. Lynch of Fall River as first reader of Fletcher’s dissertation. Fletcher, AB cum laude from Providence College, has published in The Massachusetts Teacher and The Bulletin Journal of Columbia University and teaches three courses at Rhode Island College of Education.
