Bristol voters elect 5544 citizens in the biennial town election with 1443 in District One First Voting, 1752 in District One Second, and 2349 in District Two. Campaigns run by Republicans and Democrats detail platform points and past records as polls open tomorrow.
The Y Vikings and US Rubber basketball teams resume hostilities Thursday at the Y MoCA. The US Rubber won 69 to 52 in their first clash. If US Rubber repeats, they take the series. Viking fans claim their team is better and a large crowd is expected. Damage will follow the game.
The chorus for the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Mikado will meet tomorrow evening at Holme House for rehearsal at 7 30. Cast members report at 8 15. Director Emanuel Iacoletti says rehearsals show excellent progress. Dates for staging are Friday and Saturday April 25 and 26, with proceeds to the Bristol War Relief Fund.
The Bristol Senior High School Athletic Association will host a dance in the school auditorium on March 14 from 8 to 12. Postponed from February 21 due to playoff games, the event is organized by chairman Alexander Anderton and committee members Charles Coggeshall Frank Marco Paul Richards Louis Stanzione Muriel Trudell with faculty advisor John L. Burke.
Bristol Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution gathered reading material for Rhode Island’s 243rd Coast Artillery on active duty at Fort Adams Getty and Wetherell. Speakers included Mrs Albert L Parks and Mrs Howard S Almy who spoke on Junior American Citizens and Americanization in schools.
The annual Bristol School Report shows expenditures fell by 1671 dollars from the prior year despite the new Andrews School opening. Textbook spending per pupil was 93 cents, and the per pupil elementary cost was 58.32 dollars, the lowest in the state. Recommendations include updated lighting, facility renovations, replacing Taft and Mason with a modern brick school, and adding an elementary school on Bristol Neck to spur growth. The report features contributions from district principals and staff and notes the chairman’s retirement letter.
About 50 strikers from Parrigon Togs returned to work as a union shop agreement was signed after late negotiations. Thomas J Flavell of the Amal gamated Clothing Workers of America announced wage boosts for operators, pressers, and floor workers, plus a dues check-off and arbitration for disputes.
Bristol draftee Fred Riccio who left for Fort Blanding to join the 43rd Division was honored at a Sunday farewell gathering at his DeWalf avenue home. Guests from Holyoke Providence Fall River and Hartford attended a buffet luncheon hosted by Mrs Mary Steen Mrs John DiCrisoiaro Mrs Virginia Hayes and Mrs Jennie Garvey.
Rev. Herbert D. Graetz delivers a see and hear sermon at 7:30 pm in DeWolf Memorial Chapel using Casper Geiger's painting The Kiss of Betrayal. The series distributes copies of great paintings depicting life of Christ to the congregation. Weekly Wednesday services feature the pictured event as the focal point.
British author P G Wodehouse, captured by Nazis in northern France, is confined in a civilian internment camp in Silesia with about 1100 other British subjects. He works on a new novel titled Money For Jam, writes by longhand in a private room at the camp, and maintains a cordial rapport with German officials while sharing daily life details and routines with fellow prisoners.
