Bristol approves school building plan after record turnout
The Bristol special election saw 2382 voters, nearly half of eligible residents, approving a school facilities plan. Dr John E Marshall’s philosophy did little to sway Bristolians, who call for value in plant and program a swift, decisive action to relieve educational handicaps. Roger W Pigeon led the building committee vote, praising the push by supporters and vowing no frills. PTA president Robert Pelton welcomed two educators on the committee and urged citizen input. Democratic leader John Romano credited surveys and party advocacy, while Republican Lucien Capone praised the party’s constructive effort. School board chair John Principe emphasized expeditious work to fulfill the voters’ mandate.
