Town Council Meeting Deliberates Patrolman and Local Issues

The town council met Wednesday with most members present. Two executive votes failed to elect a permanent patrolman, prompting a one week extension of the police ordinance suspension while selection continues.

Distinctive Flag Planned For Third Liberty Loan

The third Liberty Loan will open in a month with a unique flag featuring a red border and three vertical blue stripes. Cities exceeding quotas receive stars on their flag, window cards will honor bond buyers, and state capitals will display honor flags recording community quotas.

Draft plan outlined for 800000 men to be called April onward

The article explains a nationwide draft starting in April with 800000 men to be summoned by year end. By June 1 a small number will be chosen, then draftees will be sent to camps throughout the year. April and May selects go to the war zone this summer to form full strength divisions and replacement detachments on the Lorraine front.

Died From Gas Poisoning Cornelius Reilly Found Dead at Home

Cornelius Reilly a longtime town resident was found dead at his Bourn Street home about 12 15 this morning. A gas leak from a loose jet on the cooking range caused accidental poisoning while he slept. His niece Mary Reilly detected the odor, entered the home, and alerted neighbors. The medical examiner said death occurred several hours earlier and undertaker Michael Tobin prepared the body. Reilly long served as sexton at St Marys Church and was active in the Holy Name Society. He is survived by a sister in New York State and a nephew in Providence. Funeral arrangements had not been made.

Bristol Liberty Loan Committee forms to push Third Loan

A Bristol committee organized at the Industrial Trust Company banking rooms to promote Bristol sales of the Third Liberty Loan. The group names Clinton T Sherman as chairman and includes C Wesley Young Jr and Wallis E Howe among others. Sub committees for publicity speakers and correspondence were chosen. The campaign begins April 6 with house to house canvassing anticipated, led by Miss Helena Case and the Women's Committee for National Defense.

New Trolley Zone Rates in Providence Line Fares

The Special Commission for investigation of Rhode Island Company's suburban lines sets new fares on the Providence Riverside and Bristol line effective by April 1. Fares scale from 5c to 31c to various endpoints, with higher rates outside Providence. The commission rejects a flat six cent fare and suggests abolishing municipal franchise in favor of a State franchise tax to relieve the company and avoid receivership.
