Prominent Bristol Citizen John G. Stewart Dies at 87
John Gordon Stewart died yesterday in a Providence hospital after weeks of illness. A London born immigrant, he lived 47 years in Bristol and worked for the U S Rubber Co. He held many civic roles including Bristol Fourth of July Committee secretary for 37 years and longtime Bristol YMCA director and treasurer. He was 87 and the funeral is at St Michael's Church after services at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Lt Joseph G Riccio CEC US NR husband of Adeline E Riccio of 932 Hope St completed the Disaster Relief Class last Friday at the US Naval School Civil Engineer Corps Officers Naval Construction Battalion Center Port Hueneme California. The program trains officers and key civilians in disaster relief planning focusing on engineering needs for operations. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1932. He served in World War II with ABC Safety and Security in Davisville Rhode Island and later held safety engineering posts in Boston, Newport, and Pearl Harbor before joining Public Works at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Hawaii.

Slippery Roads Cause Minor Injuries In City Collision
Slippery conditions on town streets led to two traffic incidents on Saturday. Edmond Levy, 24, of Buffalo, was thrown from his car after skidding on Hope street and colliding with Armand Hamel, 34, but Levy declined medical help. Peter Denison, 24, and John Travers, 28, involved in a second crash on Mount Hope avenue, escaped injury as minor vehicle damage occurred. Highway crews then sanded roads to reduce danger.

Canon Larned to Retire On May 1

Civil Defense Budget Sees Decrease From Last Year
