Bristol Jaycees and Fire Bristol Jr. Chamber of Commerce plan the first of three polio immunization clinics on April 14 with vaccines bought by the chapter. A seven member committee led by Grant Hirons coordinates forms at local drugstores, nurse volunteers, and a doctor led medical team for the 10 am to 1 pm clinic. The $1 per shot price applies to all three inoculations, and a second clinic is set for April 25 to complete the series.

Premier Thread Sets August End Target For Bristol Plant
Premier Thread Co through Metta Realty takes over Plant J at the foot of Bradford Street now in Central Falls and Pawtucket. W Richard Mahoney says operations should be at 100 percent by the end of August with full machinery in place after painting wiring and renovations. The Bristol plant site was chosen for expansion and to consolidate operations under one roof with 200 to 250 workers. Mars: G. Gordon Associates of Boston previously owned Plant J.

Cup Defenders Mark Milestone On March 15
The Cup Defenders Association of Bristol Rhode Island marks a milestone with the burning of its mortgage deed at its Wood Street quarters on Sunday March 15. Festivities start at 2 p.m. with a buffet, a brief speaking program, music and dancing. Toastmaster Michael W Pasquarelli will open a gathering attended by state and town officials and a long list of invited guests. The club, incorporated September 4 1935, lists founders and charter members in its history.

Local Man Back From Antarctic
Darrell Bud Nelson of 398 High St has returned from McMurdo Sound where he spent 40 months as a supply technician supporting a winter crew. He will rejoin the base in September as spring returns to the Antarctic region. McMurdo houses about 109 personnel seasonally and coordinates deliveries to nearby bases including Scott Base two miles away.
