The Bristol Improvement Association held its third annual banquet at the Hotel Belvedere last evening with 75 men and guests in attendance. Rev Samuel Lindsay of Bellevue Pa delivered the principal address titled Robert Burns the Poet of the Common People.
The town heard a polished portrait of James Burns by Mr Lindsay with local figures such as Judge Hammill Wendell Davis and Rear Admiral Edwards. A forthcoming Baby Week launches with showings at Pastime Theatre and varied programs across Italian Hall and Colt Memorial High School featuring Little Mothers League demonstrations and talks by Dr Richardson and Dr Utter.
The piece urges a revival of the Poetic spirit to create a Town Beautiful in Bristol. It lauds Improvement Society members from varied work fields as poets who bind ideal dreams to real labor to shape beautiful streets sidewalks houses and public buildings in Bristol.
Mr Lindsay stressed humanity over property as Bristol improves aims for practical town gains. Speakers praised the Bristol Improvement Association with emphasis on good roads sidewalks and local development. The address drew applause and a unanimous vote of thanks from toastmaster B F Lindemuth with Admiral Edwards promising more on the topic.
United Brothers Lodge No 13 IOOF met in Odd Fellows Hall with the third degree conferred. A supper followed marking a 40 year gap since Feb 29 gatherings and 28 years until the next possible Tuesday Feb 29. Bro George Miller received a commendation for service, while gas engineer Miller plans to join the European war effort after resigning March 1 and leaving for Ottawa to join the English aviation corps en route to Paris.
The American Jewish Relief Committee of Rhode Island thanks Warren Bristol and Barrington residents for generous donations on Donation Day for Jewish War sufferers held January 27, 1916. Henry Burt, Secretary.
Senator Ezra Dixon introduced a resolution to submit to voters a $150000 bond issue to purchase Mount Hope Park. The measure was sent to the judiciary committee with option at $150000 and no cost until voters authorize purchase. If approved, the purchase proceeds next November.
