Minstrel Show Delights Soldiers' Home Veterans

A Pawtucket group under F A Williams staged a minstrel program for Soldiers' Home veterans and 110 Relief Corps members and guests. The event featured ballads solos interludes and clog dancing with Ideal Orchestra accompaniment and gifts for veterans with birthdays since the last visit.

Supt of Schools Mapes addressed a weekly forum, asserting Japan may withdraw from Manchuria once Shanghai boosts its military image. District Nurses Praised For Good Work In Rhode Island Tuberculosis Fight

At the annual Rhode Island Tuberculosis Association meeting in Providence the Bristol District Nursing Association reported progress on free chest clinics with 200 examinations this year compared to 1330 last year. Fourteen new positive cases were found, two in incipient stage. Nurses made 24 field visits on TB cases and Bristol residents received SHS days of care at the State Sanatorium in 1931. Martha Graham represented the Nursing Association and was congratulated by Dr Barnes.

Fifth District Court Holds Small Fines and Probation Actions

In the Fifth District Court Judge Lindemuth fined Manuel Arruda 25 dollars plus costs for resisting an officer after a Jan 20 filing. Arruda appealed and posted 500 dollars bail via Manuel Sousa. Also, Medeiros had a larceny case dropped on costs, Cunard was sent to reform school for probation violation, and several civil dockets were continued or unresolved.

Woman Injured in Street Collision Near Parochial School

Mrs Jessie Barbosa, 62 or 168 Bradford Street, was injured Sunday evening on Wood Street near St Mars Parochial School when struck by a truck driven by Manuel Grira or 16 Mitacom Avenue. She sustained a fracture to the left leg and received first aid from Dr AMO Mercman before being conveyed to Rhode Island Hospital.

Edward A Edgar 73 Buried After Funeral in Warren

Edward A Edgar of 106 Hope Street Bristol died Friday at his daughter’s home in New York City. Funeral services were held at 2 PM at George M Wilbur parlors Warren with burial in North Cemetery. He was born in Newport and lived in Bristol 20 years. He worked as a crossing tender for the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad. He is survived by his wife Cora May Beals Edgar three daughters Helen Grooms Miss Helen Pulgar and Mrs James Watson a sister Mrs Alexander Jennings and a brother George Edgar.

Mrs Arruda Buried After Funeral Mass

The funeral for Mrs Mary Ponte Arruda, 80, who died Wednesday at her daughter Mrs Rose Aracho's Court street home after a long illness, was held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from the family residence with a requiem Mass at St Elizabeth's Church officiated by Rev Fr Francisco Vieira. Burial followed at St Mary's Cemetery.

Progressive J Y Chapter Holds Afternoon Devotional Service

Guiteras Pupils Stage Play Hook and Crooks Friday

Pupils of Grade 9C at Guiteras Memorial Junior High presented a balanced program Friday afternoon featuring songs and a play titled Hook and Crooks. Miss Mary Connors led the event and Francis Ascoli served as announcer. Cast included John McCarthy Carmine Carvataro Mary Ruce and Mary Correia.
