Chase Rockwell calls Bristol citizens to defend the town’s good name by voting for a Republican slate he says is honest and capable of prudent spending. He urges turnout at the polls to elect a council that will uphold law and order and restore public trust.
The Roosevelt Line steamer Cokesit capt. H McCaw berthed at Bulimba wharf with 3200 tons of general cargo for Australian ports loaded at New York. It will discharge about 894 tons, including 20000 cases of oil 40 automobiles and 400 tons of other goods. The voyage from New York on November 19 was smooth. Wireless reports noted US radio apparatus value at 170 million dollars for last year and a 215 percent rise from 1923.

Committal services for John R Burgess who died Wednesday in Worcester were held at 2 30 o clock Saturday afternoon in the mortuary chapel of the North Cemetery. Rev Nelson Kellogg rector of Trinity Church officiated.
Neatly at BACICES two spelling contests a speaking contest a debate and two best work programs highlighted auditorium exercises Friday afternoon. 8A-1 and 8A-2 tied in the first spelling event while 8B-1 defeated 8B-2. Ella Mae Lemaire won first honors in the 8A speaking contest, with Emelia De Florio second. The debate favored the negative side on Handel versus Bach. Judges and participant names listed.
Ash Wednesday services are announced for several churches. St Michael's offers a 10:30 a.m. sermon and 8 p.m. service. Trinity holds Masses at 6:30, 7:30, 10:30 with Matins at 10:15 and Evensong at 3. St Mary's blesses ashes at 8:15 Mass with distribution after and an 7:30 p.m. service. St Elizabeth's presents morning masses with 7:30 p.m. sermon, benediction and ashes. Our Lady of Mt Carmel sets blessing and distribution at 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Former treasurer Anthony Nunes was chosen secretary of Bristol Aerie No 953 Fraternal Order of Eagles to fill an unexpired term. He succeeds John F. Lowney who resigned after ten years in the post. Harold Gifford remains treasurer for the rest of the term. Charles A Duquette, former Worthy President and noted New York transit motorman, returned from a month in Cuba and Miami and gave a trip summary.
Mrs Charles W Wall entertained eight F E Club members at Pearse Avenue Friday afternoon. After a brief business meeting they enjoyed luncheon served by the hostess. Spring flowers and antique brass candle sticks provided table decorations. The next meeting will be at the secretary’s home once chosen.
A birthday party was held Saturday evening at Miss Alice Metiver's Thames Street home honoring Miss Anna Servant. Games and refreshments followed piano solos by Miss Metiver and Arthur Demars and vocal numbers by Mr Reopal and Mr David of Warren. Guests came from Woonsocket Fall River Seekonk Barrington Attleboro Warren and the local town.
The funeral for Mrs Vitiline Gladue widow of Louis Gladue was held from her Thames Street home and St Marys Church with a requiem mass. Floral tributes were presented and bearers named Frank Louis Harvey Joseph Wilfred and Donat Gladue. Burial followed at St Marys Cemetery.
Three town pastors debated if a person can be a Christian outside the church. Rev Anson B. Howard argued Christianity is more than good deeds and that church membership is essential for full spiritual life. He warned against definitions that reduce Christianity to mere virtue or a voluntary association.
Rev James J Goodacre, pastor of the First Congregational Church, affirms that admittance of believers fosters comfort for those not in organized Christianity. He argues the church's divine origin and mission, its role in unity, morality, and emancipation, and invites Christians outside the church to consider their sources of faith.
State Street Methodist pastor Rev. Charles W. Martin led a discussion on the meaning of Christianity and the Christian church. He asked what defines a Christian and how the church should relate to individuals and society, noting the importance of clear definitions for shared aims.
A speaker argues Jesus intended Christians to function within the church as a unified force. The church’s history shows its power in ending slavery, advancing democracy, aiding women and children, and promoting conscience and speech. The outsider tastes warmth only if they join, while the church is a mighty machine guided by God.
Judge Frank H. Hamill, acting on the probation officer's recommendation, discontinued the vagrancy charge against Anita Lachance after she paid costs. The record shows Lachance listed Corey Street Charlestown Mass as her address, later found to be unregistered. Other cases disposed of include Altman vs Artico jury trial claimed and Bauer Inc. vs Morris continued. Vermette Bros. vs Dr Hit remained not answered and continued for one week.
