Unemployment Figures Show May Decline and Job Placements Rise
The Department of Employment Security reports May data with fewer initial claims and lower weekly benefit payments. May claims totaled 9,129 down from 9,705 April and 9,552 May last year, while May benefits were 3,024,612 compared with 3,119,058 April. The State Employment Service placed 1,632 workers, up sharply from April. Temporary Disability Insurance claims rose to 3,914 in May from 3,554 April.

Orphans’ Outing Planned With Striper Club
Forty orphan boys will spend a day fishing on the bay this Saturday July 15 with hosts from the Bristol County Striper's Club. Club president Richard Greene says the excursion will end with a cook-out on Prudence Island.
