Proper U S Flag Display Rules From War Department
The War Department sets two proper display methods for the U S flag during the 250th Anniversary week. The flag should be unfurled from a staff with the Union to the peak or hung vertically with the Union uppermost and to the observer's left. When flown with other flags the American flag goes on the observer's left or at the center, and flags of other nations must have separate staffs. The flag is not to be festooned or used as a drape, must be raised to the peak when hoisted and lowered to half-staff carefully, and single flags should always be flown on the appropriate side in processions. Old Glory may be laundered at home, and damaged flags may be withdrawn, with the flag cut and cremated in old Army custom.
