Bristol voters rejected all five state bond measures in the statewide referendum amid light turnout. Of 994 Bristolians voting, results showed the highway bond 452 for 527 against, medical center 473 for 491 against, junior college 433 for 534 against, recreational buildings 354 for 593 against, and Self Help Authority 398 for 541 against.
Bristol officials and state authorities dispute the cause of delays to the Greenacres park sites. Councilman Marabello cites a new state application form delaying planning, while Anthony Judge, Jr. blames incomplete specifications and site plans.
Lincoln Almond, administrator of Lincoln, urged Bristol Charter Commission to adopt a strong executive form. He cited Lincoln’s administrator council system and questioned the finance town meeting, arguing the mayor’s power vs. manager’s role and noting civil service trends. He favored a strong executive over weak mayor structures.
