Scrap drive targets north Bristol homes for war materials

Residents north of State Street in Bristol are urged to search attics cellars and yards for scrap metal as part of a city campaign. C C Getchell says four highway trucks and one sewer truck will collect material with auxiliary firemen Y M C A staff and local youths assisting.

New Personnel Manager Named A. C. & A.

Albert T Fusonie former Taft School coach of football hockey and baseball in Watertown Conn is appointed manager of the Personnel Department of Collins and Aikman Corp plants in the state. He succeeds Edmund Cunningham and will reside in Bristol with his wife and two sons.

Before The Doctor Comes Shown At Colt Memorial High

First aid group hears that the sound film Before The Doctor Comes will be repeated at Colt Memorial High School at 8 o clock. Dr C Paul Bruno arranged the repeat due to high demand after Reynolds School screening. A life-saving film will also be shown and all first-aid trainees urged to attend for a Red Cross Manual review. Plans include first-aiders joining the Fourth of July parade with several speakers at the meeting.

Mrs Rockwell reports success of S P C C drive in Bristol

Mrs Charles B Rockwell chair of the annual S P C C financial appeal announced Bristol exceeded its quota with a total of 83.50 and that the final subscribers will be listed in Tuesday's Phoenix She praised the generous response and said funds would aid Bristol children. Joseph Bisbano Jr son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Bisbano of 615 Wood Street has been promoted to 1st Class Fireman and is stationed at the Naval Training Station in Newport after enlisting May 20 He is a Colt Memorial High School graduate and formerly worked as a machinist at Collins Aikman.

Bristol Boys Will Register In Warren For Selective Service

Bristol County announces Warren Post Office Building as the sole registration site for 18 and 19 year olds on or before June 30 1942 with a three day schedule starting tomorrow Volunteers from three towns including teachers such as Miss Margaret Murphy and Miss Grace Shiel will staff the registration under the County Draft Board hours 830 am to 515 pm tomorrow and 7 am to 9 pm Tuesday Those unable to register at their local place may register at the nearest site.

Former Fire Chiefs to Meet with Engineers in Bristol

Former Bristol Fire Department chiefs including Daniel G Coggeshall Walter Coggeshall Robert J Anderson John Grabert and Fred J Guevremont will meet tonight with the Board of Fire Engineers at the Dreadnaught Fire Station to discuss air raid emergency plans and gather their guidance. John F McKenna a retired Providence official will also attend. Chief Moses Moore said 50 auxiliary firefighters are enrolled and will begin training in first aid then regular fire department work. A farewell party for Edmund Cunningham was held at Collins Aikman Corp with gifts. he is transferring to Philadelphia.
