Town Hikes Tax Rate Eight Cents to 2.48

The Board of Tax Assessors approved a new tax rate of 2.48 per hundred, an eight cent rise from 1947, staying below the 2.50 maximum and avoiding town property revaluations. Major factors include higher exemptions, increased town appropriations, and a large rise in tangible personal property value. Members cited 1948 exemptions near 415000 and new construction valued at 192800, with final figures to be released in August.
