False fire alarm causes townwide concern on Thompson Ave
An alarm for a fire on Thompson Avenue Tuesday evening caused anxiety amid a town with a broken main water line near Half Way Hill. Volunteers responded quickly but no fire was found as smoke leaked from a house on Sherry Avenue owned by Stephen L Alves due to burning rubber shoes. The recall came at 9 15. Hydraulion Engine and Hose Company delayed when its motorized truck lacked gasoline. Chief Grabert suspects malice or theft by someone who drained the station's tank earlier in the week.
