Fourth of July Plans Grow With Wright Carrier Visit
The Fourth of July Committee announced plans for Independence Day including a visit by the USS Wright carrier with about 800 sailors. A sports exhibition with Twilight League clubs is arranged for the afternoon and banners will be placed across the state.

Bruce Matheson seven years old, son of Mr and Mrs John Matheson, a seventh grade pupil at Guiteras Memorial School, won the final round of last Friday’s spelling bee. Emery Guilmette Mary Mason and Anna Carmone were finalists. Principal George J. O'Brien awarded him a gold colored paper crown inscribed Champion Speller.
