Community rally funds for school band uniforms

Local residents back a Rotary Club led effort to raise money for new high school band uniforms by promoting the drama Boomerang. Broadway actors lead the cast including Alice Hepburn and Dick Burgess with a Guiteras School auditorium run Friday and Saturday after a children’s matinee and a Rip Van Winkle prologue. A Wednesday parade with the band and Rotary members will publicize the project.

WPA Workers Arrested Over Closed Season Duck Charge

Three WPA workers from Bristol and Riverside were arrested after arriving on Prudence Island. They pleaded guilty to possessing wild duck in a closed season and were placed on six months probation by First District Court in Portsmouth. Federal action against them was pending.

Bristol Students to Take Summer Institute Courses

Robert M McGann of 48 Union Street registers for basic organic chemistry at the Summer Institute Kingston three week session starting July 5. Rhode Island State College sophomore, son of Mrs Isabel M McGann, and Colt Memorial High School 1937 graduate, joins Alpha Tau Gamma. Miss Mary I Castro of 356 Wood Street Bristol plans Italian and journalism courses and will gain practical experience covering news events. The Little Rhody Boys State program by the American Legion is also slated to take place at Kingston July 5.

The record shows donations totaling 12 dollars for Rev A Fourth of July Fund. Judge Wim TO Donnell contributed 10 dollars and Carlo Perry 2 dollars, with an additional note of 100 dollars listed as total.

Pyrotechnic Fourth of July Display Planned in Bristol

The celebration committee voted to close two days of Independence Day events with a grand pyrotechnic show on the Fourth set by John Castriotti of Providence. The $150 display will feature 15 set pieces and a Niagara Falls finale on the Coshman. Rhode Island Historian John W. Haley to present the patriotic address after the parade. Senator Theodore Francis Green will miss the event due to plans to be out of the country. Transportation for soldiers sailors and national guardsmen to Bristol arranged.

Judge William T O Donnell ordered defaults yesterday morning in the district court in civil suits by Tax Collector Amos S Gorham against two delinquents. Brown University Class of 1918 Reunion at Ocean House
