Kearney Post Honored on 28th Anniversary Service

Kearney Post No é The American Legion marked 28 years of community service at a dinner and dance on Franklin Street. Adjutant George R. Fish led the program with post history highlights. Speakers included Commander Robert Allen and Arthur J Belmore. Past commanders and auxiliary leaders were recognized, and dancing followed the address by the schedule.

Priests Honored At Testimonial Banquet

The Rev. Matthew A. Carmone and the Rev. Francis J. Parella were guests of honor at a Sunday testimonial banquet at New Highland Casino. The Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church sponsored the event with over a hundred attendees.

Fourth of July Bridge Set For June 30 at St Michael's

June 30 was announced as the date of the annual Fourth of July Bridge event to be held in St Michael's Church parish house. Mrs. Raymond S Brightman chairs for the twelfth year. Donations include $25 from Mrs Charles B Rockwell and $5 from J Winthrop DeWolf. Committee members to be announced Friday.

Minturn Farm Case To Be Heard Next Fall

The Rhode Island Supreme Court may set a fall hearing date for the Minturn Farm land dispute after a petition by adjacent landowners seeks a full re opening of the dump location case. The court may require the Zoning Board to submit all records by June 25. Planning Board action on a separate petition opposing the Minturn Farm dump was postponed pending court action.

Sales Tax explained at public meeting Tuesday

Sales and Use Tax recently enacted by the State Legislature will be explained at a meeting Tuesday evening June 24 at Colt Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. Tax Commissioner Edward L. Leahy and associates will interpret provisions and answer questions. The tax becomes effective July 1 and applies to manufacturers wholesalers and retailers.

Everett S Woodmansee of the Rhode Island Industrial Commission announced that Collins & Aikman seeks a greater water supply and that authority rests with Joseph H Farrell Bristol Town. U S Senator J Howard McGrath agreed to be principal speaker at patriotic exercises after the parade on July 4. Committee chairman James F Meiggs said plans are taking shape and finances look brighter. One destroyer will be in the harbor with more expected for the day.

He is a former prisoner of war now at Georgetown University researching for the National Archives. Guest Betty Marie Smith of Kansas City works for the U S Justice Department.
