At a Fourth of July committee meeting the Bristol panel voted to invite Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd and Harold I. June as guests of the town and to invite Alexander Geisler, who accompanied Byrd on the Arctic Expedition. Letters of acceptance came from officials and a fireworks display and bonfire were planned for July 3 and 4. The U S Milwaukee was assigned to Bristol for the celebration, though the 13th Infantry cannot attend.
