Rhode Island War Veterans Tax Exemption Amendment

The Rhode Island legislature passed H775 Substitute A in January 1927 amending section 6 of Chapter 58 to extend tax exemptions for veterans of the Civil War Spanish American War and World War. The act sets exemption limits, proportional city by city reductions, and requires veterans or widows to apply with evidence of entitlement. The Board of Assessors will hold sessions June 16 to June 7 1927 for annual accounts and discharges to qualify.

Ivy Guild Hosts Vestry Members and Wives at IVE Grand

The Ivy Guild entertained the vestry of St Michaels Church and spouses at the Ive Grand on Tuesday night for the monthly meeting. President Mrs William H. Angevine opened with a welcome, followed by America and the flag salute led by Mrs William S. Manchester. The program featured Burnside Glee Club selections led by Charles Mac Morgan, readings by Miss Elizabeth Rounds, vocal solos by Fred G. Deitz, and piano by Mrs Frank A Rounds, ending with The Star Spangled Banner. Refreshments were served by a committee led by Mrs Matthew J Cahoon.

Successful Whist Event by Hope Circle at State Street Home

The Hope Circle Daughters of Tsabella held a successful whist on Wednesday evening at the Ro of C Home on State Street. Prizes were awarded to Mrs Althea Lord Mrs Augustus Perone Miss Margaret Dwyer William O Rourke Fred Knowlton and James Connery. The organizing committee included Miss Loretta Walsh Mrs Helen Dodd Mrs Margaret Morris Miss Mary Callan Miss Ella Condon Mrs Bridget Lewis and Mrs Eliza Dwyer.

Kearney Post Honors Patriotic Anniversary Meeting

About 200 persons attended the Patriotic meeting by Kearney Post No 6 American Legion in Grand Army Hall honoring the 150th anniversary of the flag adoption. The program featured songs, readings, solos, and remarks by Attorney General George P Sisson and other officials. Delegates to the Department Convention were elected and plans for permanent club rooms were discussed.

Woman's Home Missionary Society elects new president

Mrs Fred G Blatsdell was chosen president at the annual meeting of the Woman's Home Missionary Society held at the State Street MF Church yesterday afternoon. Officers named include Vice President Mrs Mar Coggeshall Recording Secretary Mrs Charles W Martin Corresponding Secretary Miss Ella E Blakeslee and Treasurer Miss Harriet L Peckham. Annual reports were read and accepted. Refreshments were served by the hostess Mrs Crawford L Easterbrooks at 100 High Street.
