Colt Memorial High School and Grammar School complete courses with a senior outing to Rocky Point and Newport. The banquet at the Belvedere is led by President Sidney Makowsky, with readings by Marguerite Booth and Charles Serbst, and Roy Walsh prophecies. Commencement Thursday evening features Rev Arthur H Bradford and diplomas for 29 graduates.
A Phoenix reader expresses deep appreciation for the fire companies on State street after a Friday morning blaze. The writer notes the fire gained headway before arrival and stresses the need for better apparatus and hose, urging taxpayers to support the fire service.
At Friday meeting the Babbitt corps voted to drape the charter in mourning for Mrs. James T. Phelps who died in Conshohocken Pa. Charter member and past president, she will be honored at the next official visit by Department President Mrs. Mabel Lockwood and staff. Members plan cemetery visits to decorate graves of deceased members and observe Flag Day with exercises and refreshments.
The Reynolds grammar school will hold a class supper social and dance this evening in the John Post at 6 o'clock. A supper will be served then a social and dance in the auditorium. Graduation exercises for 37 graduates will be at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon with Representative James F Lavander delivering the address.
The telephone service switched from the Hope and Bradford exchange to the new Court street building Saturday afternoon at 345 o clock with no outage. Division officials present included C B Allsopp, Douglass N Allen, Farle A Archer, Edwin Anderson, Edmund W Bis, Clifford M Wilson, Albert B Cobb, John F Hedge, and Frederick T Nelson among others.
David J Leary twenty two of Newport Rhode Island pleaded guilty to operating an automobile while intoxicated and was fined seventy five dollars and costs by Judge Frank H Hammill after he crashed his car into a traffic beacon at State and Hope streets. Manuel P Dutra arrested near the Franklin street station pleaded guilty to assault on Francisco Dias of Cambridge Massachusetts and was fined fifteen dollars and costs. Pasquale Madona of Barrington had case for enticing away a girl under eighteen continued one week. John A Hawthorne of the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals sued Pasquale Madona for cruelty to a dog in a separate civil matter. The Progress Paint Company vs William W Perry book four account was answered and continued two weeks.
Otis Marshall Bailey Jr and Ming Alma Albertine Dufour of this town announce intentions to marry. Albert Reis Pontes of Somerset Massachusetts and Irene Reis Cabral of this town also announce intended nuptials.
