At St Marys School 212 pupils collected 4097 pounds of salvaged rubber while Guiteras School with 470 pupils gathered 5539 pounds. St Marys won a $5 prize for top per pupil average of 19 pounds versus Guiteras 11.8. A Bristol manufacturer offered $5 for second place. Total scrap rubber reached 14207 pounds. Proceeds fund athletic equipment and a USO station at Bristol likely via the Y M C A.
