Married Women Dropped From Local Public School List
Seven married women teachers were removed from the permanent instructor list at the June school committee meeting in Colt Library. Four new appointments were made including Emily Xavier and Eleanor Rae among others. Superintendent Mapes said some may be reappointed in the fall if enrollment warrants. salaries for some teachers were cut to align with other female instructors.

Cornerstone Laying And Tablet Unveiling At New School Today
The cornerstone ceremony for Andrew's Memorial School will occur at 4 15 PM with Charles B Rockwell presiding and Leo Cantwell assisting. Tablets honor donors Robert Dudley Andrews and Robert Shaw Andrews, while Canon Parshley and Rev Kellogg will deliver readings and prayers.

Cady Named Chief Marshal For July 4 Parade
George M. Cady of Teaneck New Jersey named chief marshal for Bristol Fourth of July parade by chairman James F Meiggs. Cady an architect designer of Andrews Memorial High School and son of former Bristol County Sheriff Philo P Cady will lead the grand military firemen and civic procession. Governor Robert E Quinn will ride in the parade with Col Colt Memorial High School principal Edward J Fitzgerald as chief of staff. The two day program includes a baseball game at Guiteras Memorial field and open house at Col Smidling’s Hope Street home.

Anthony J Nunes was installed as president of Bristol Aene Fraternal Order of Eagles with 200 guests present. Officers installed included Calandra, Miausardo, Vargas, Moran, Borgia and Asciolla, with state leaders and local officials attending. Nunes, a Bristol resident since a 1847 marriage, was noted for public spirit and youth work through the YMCA and Rogers Free Library Boys Rooms.

Cornerstone laid for Bristol school in memory of Robert Shaw Andrews
A new Bristol school cornerstone is laid near a former church site funded by a deceased Bristol benefactor in memory of his father Robert Shaw Andrews. The elder Andrews, longtime Bristol Superintendent of Schools 1859 to 1876, was born in Boston and was the last of eight siblings. He attended Brown University before a long career in education and died at 99.
