Sailors to Lead July Fourth Bristol Parade
About 300 sailors from Newport Naval Training Station and their band will march in Bristol's July Fourth parade along with Sea Scout troops and eight bugle and drum corps. Rhode Island officials plan a full day program from 2 p.m. July 2 reception to a midnight bonfire, with activities on July 3 including baseball, vaudeville, and a band concert.

John W Haley Named Chief Marshal for Fourth of July Parade
Rhode Island historian John W Haley will be chief marshal of the Grand Military Firemen's and Civic Parade on July 4 announced by James F Meiggs the celebrations committee's general chairman. Haley accepted the invitation upon returning from Fort Defiance Virginia where his son graduated from Augusta Military Academy. Haley has long led Independence Day events in Bristol and has served as orator in past parades. Ten divisions will participate in the parade.
