Bristol Council Bans Pinball Machines in Town

Led by Council President Gilbert Hoover the Bristol Town Council unanimously ordered removal of pinball machines within a week due to youth harm concerns. Captain Baker was present to enforce the action with Town Solicitor Capone citing gambling law tests. Also noted is the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs Alfred Paiva on June 9 at the Lying-In Hospital.

Bristol Fourth of July parade to feature large National Guard presence

The Bristol Fourth of July parade will include one of the largest National Guard representations, led by Manuel Prenda as commander of the 243rd Battalion. Dr Samuel D Clark announced that Prenda will serve as Chief of Staff, with Batteries A through D and H units expected in line and 705th Battalion possibly represented. The Bristol Historical Society plans an Independence display and a Sailor story from Commander Prenda, who served aboard the USS Stack.

Salvatore Abate Heads Bristol Aerie Officers

A Bristol Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles installed Salvatore Abate as worthy president and named Leo Pelland, Andrew Sylvia, Norman Bernard, John White, Joseph Qualey, and David Myerson in key roles. The prior session reported amendments to St Michaels Church charter. trustees for the coming year were named. A clam boil followed the ceremonies.

Local Couple To Receive M S Degree At Middlebury

At the 148th commencement in Mead Memorial Chapel on Monday June 14 Middlebury College will confer Master of Science degrees on Mr and Mrs Cazemiro Antonio of 408 Wood Street The couple earned BS degrees from Rhode Island State College The event features Judge Edmund I Lewis of the New York Court of Appeals delivering the commencement address in the largest class yet with 301 men and two women set to graduate.

Town Clerk reports three contributions for Burnside Memorial costs

Town Clerk John W Church notes three contributions toward painting the Honor Roll the flag pole and the cannon in front of Burnside Memorial Building and tubs on Hope Street. He estimates needing about 75 dollars and has received 22 dollars including 20 from Judge and Mrs Edward L Leahy and 1 dollar from Manny Sousa and a friend.
