Bristol Town Council Backs Chamber Plan To Bring Destroyers
Bristol Town Council approved cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce to lure 25 or 30 U S destroyers for a summer base. The plan includes a large float at the dock foot of Church street for landing, with several hundred sailors ashore daily to boost local business. A committee was named to interview Admiral Robertson in Newport and a telegram sent requesting an appointment. The council also authorized July Fourth participation and sewer work details for High street.
