Masons Plan 150th Anniversary Celebration in Bristol

Bristol Masons will mark 150 years with a four day program starting Thursday June 22. Toastmaster Charles B Rockwell Jr and principal speaker Rev Lex King Souter will headline events including a banquet on Saturday June 24. A Sunday church service will feature Rev Samuel Lindsay.

Town Clerk Urges Early Voter Registration

Town Clerk John W. Church asks all eligible residents to register by June 30. By Wednesday night 299 men and 276 women had registered, compared with 480 men and 276 women in 1948. Office hours in June run weekdays 9 to 4, with Wednesday evenings June 14 and 21 and additional hours June 28 to 30. Veterans claiming personal property exemption must register by June 30 to vote in November.

Water Battle OK'd By Stradling

Fred P. Stradling manager of the Bristol County Water Co. approved the Bristol Fire department water battle for the Fourth of July afternoon. He urged sparing use of hydrant water during practice. The company may cancel practice or the battle if drought conditions recur after last year.

Annual Rotary Camp Fund Plan to Start Soon in Bristol

The Algy Johnston Memorial Camp Fund run by the Bristol Rotary Club will begin its fifth year aiding Bristol youths. Selections come via welfare, schools, churches, or Rotary members, with applicants required to express interest. Last year 16 youths attended camps in Rhode Island, and this year the fund invites eligible children to state their desire to go.

Colt Memorials High School Clinches East Division Crown

Colt Memorials High School defeated Pawtucket East 8 to 0 at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket to secure the East Division title and improve to 11-2 while Pawtucket East falls to 10-4. Grabert and Margo led the offense and Joe Cordeiro pitched a two hit shutout.

Women of Iuka Win Big in National Civic Contest

In Iuka Mississippi a group of under 50 women from the Twentieth Century Club earned 10300 dollars in prizes for community improvement. They captured the 5000 dollar first prize in a General Federation of Women's Clubs contest plus a 5000 dollar national sweepstakes and two smaller state prizes.
