Cotton Ball Planned by Bristol-Portuguese Civic League
The Bristol Portuguese American Women's Civic League nears completion of plans for its annual Cotton Ball Friday night at the Bristol Casino. The event, a premier social affair, will draw hundreds including Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts Portuguese organizations. A grand march led by Cotton Dress winner Edward L Leahy will open the evening, with the "Cotton Queen" crowned at 10 30 p m. Judges include Leahy Rego Mello and Attilio Vieira. Intermission features the Brito children. The ball committee chaired by Mrs Joseph A Almeida, with numerous officers and organizers named in the program lists.

Mrs Bassing Injured In Street Collision
Mrs Clara Bassing of 7 Williams Street suffered a compound fracture of the left shoulder when struck by a car door while crossing Hope Street near Franklin Street. She will remain at Rhode Island Hospital for about a month. The car was operated by Ruth Bodell of Bristol Highland who said she was driving about 19 miles per hour when the incident occurred.
