Thirty-Three Stores Plan Monday Closures This Summer

Maynard F Suzman announced that thirty three downtown shops including dry goods haberdashers milliners jewelers hardware cleaners tailors sporting goods and bakers will close Mondays in July and August. The plan aims to give employers and employees a two day weekend unless a holiday falls in the week. He hopes more merchants join.

Ten bowling teams competed at High Street Alleys in a Sports Night. Captains led each team with results listing wins and losses. Trustees approve Bristol County Center at Rhode Island State College to offer regular college credit courses locally. About 45 prospective students have registered with expected growth by September as veterans boost college demand. Scouts endure heavy rain at Mount Hope Pow Wow

A Bristol County delegation joined the Narragansett Council at Mount Hope for a three day Pow Wow led by Field Executive Arthur Leidman. Severe rain forced cancellation of the Sunday program and Eagle Badge ceremonies, leaving 2,500 scouts bivouacked on the slopes and many vehicles stuck in mud. Mounties Set for July 3 Exhibition With St. Ann's

Mount Carmel's CYO hosts St. Ann's CYO of Providence for a July 3 6 pm exhibition at the Common. Mounties boast an undefeated record and aim to show strength against Rhode Island power St. Ann's led by top coach and former CYO champion stalwarts. Coast Guard and Marine Nine Game Called Off

Last Saturday morning the Coast Guard and Marine nines had a game end in a 8 8 tie after five innings due to cold weather. The Bristol YMCA Junior League will complete the contest at a regularly scheduled meeting.
