Veterans Council renews push for park memorial fill donations

The sixth meeting of the Veterans' Council sub committee on the War Memorial at Wood Street Park discussed renewed fundraising for loam sub soil and transport. Albert P Russo said progress lagged. about 1000 yards are needed though Castle Construction Company already donated 300 yards. Two town trucks are available, and $18 000 remains at risk if spent on fill.

Civil Defense Exhibit Planned at Kingston Fair

The Rhode Island Council of Civil Defense will sponsor a display at the Kingston Fair from August 12 to 19 in Hazard Hall. It will show radiological monitoring instruments and civil defense gear along with walkie talkie sets. Films including You Can Beat the A Bomb and Survival Under Atomic Attack will play daily at 1 3 5 7 8 30 and 10 o'clock.

Friday's parade at the playground crowned Irene Cavalieri and Betty Ann Alves as top doll carriages. Cavalieri dressed as an old fashioned girl and Alves as Carmen Miranda. Cheryl Ann Aberante won most original for a bride with a doll groom. Harold Cardozo and Kathleen Caizzi earned the most unusual prize imitating a godfather and godmother. All entries received prizes.

The finishing department of the U S Rubber Co held its annual outing and clam bake Sunday at Garcia's Farm Metacom avenue. About 70 workers attended. chourica sandwiches and chowder with clam cakes were served. Activities included boccia, with winning teams led by Chakardo et al and Allegria et al. committee members coordinated the affair and Stanley Topal was the bartender.
